099 - what to do when things aren't going your way...

Do you want to know what sucks? We barely control anything in life. And that hurts because we want to - so freaking much

We want to control our friends and our parents...
We want to control our coaches and teachers...
We want to control our teammates and the decisions they make during the game + the actions they take...

Alas, that's impossible (unless you're a Jedi and have mind control skills) and focusing on it only leads to frustration, anger, and like we're all alone - traits of a failure type mindset

And here's the truth - there are going to be millions of times in life when things won't go your way... when adversity will come along and ask you "how bad do you want this" - and that adversity might make you want to throw it all in...

It might make you want to quit and walk away

It's not fair Nick...
It's too hard a situation Nick...
I just cannot see how I can ever get past this Nick...

Blasphemy and lies. All bullshit excuses

Do you want to know what I know more than anything else... you're not a quitter - that's a FACT. You don't want to be one either, no do you want the future version of yourself to be a quitter.

A little bit of adversity comes along and times get tough, GOOD - here's an opportunity to show what we're truly capable of...
Here's a chance to prove all of those doubters wrong...
And a chance to develop confidence and belief in yourself that you're the type of person who can do this

THAT'S WHAT YOU DO WHEN THINGS AREN'T GOING YOUR WAY - you dig in

Actionable Tips + Questions:

  • What's my current reaction when things aren't going my way? Do I let it get to me and give it more energy + time than it deserves and do I let it drain me? If so, why?
  • What triggers can I set in place to remind me to shift this reaction? When I feel my heart start to race and anger get to me, can I stop, breathe, and shift my perspective of what's happening?
