083 - what do you think you are?

"TodayI am not what I think I am. I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am"
- Charles Cooley

We live inside of this perception of a perception of ourselves. We let our identity be created around this perception of what we believe other people think we should be, look like, or do - when in fact, our identity should be created by us and revolve around what we love to do

Not our parents, society, or our schools...
Not our friends, nor our coaches...
And definitely not those Instafamous people you follow on social...

No, the person who gets to decide at the end of the day is the one who stares you back in the mirror. You are whatever and whoever you decide to be...

Watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Watch your words, for they become your actions. Watch your actions, for they become your habits. Watch your habits for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny

What we think, we become...

Don't live inside the bubble and echo chamber of other people... don't let the perception you portray yourself as to the world be one that's inauthentic to you... as if you do so, achieving the things that you really want to do are impossible as it doesn't "fit" inside this current perception

Actionable Tips + Questions:

  • What/who do I think I am? What's my current perception of myself? Write it down... Is it empowering or disempowering? If it's disempowering, why? Are you comparing yourself to others, or trying to reach standards/levels set by them? How can we make it more empowering?
  • What/who do you think other people perceive you as? Why, and is this really the case?
  • Do you ever think you try and change yourself to please others and look good in their eyes? Does this truly make YOU happy?
